Resale value: Laptop vs Macbook

Reselling stuff? That is common nowadays, don’t need it? SELL IT!!
Of course for a nice price, because you want to spend money on to something new. I always got upset when I decided to sell my old laptop last year, and was lucky I got 550 euro’s of it (Acer laptop). When you’re looking for a secondhand laptop you sort of succeed with price ranges from 100-300 and have a decent laptop. Now I saw prices of MacBooks ….
Below on the left my very own Laptop and on the right the most recent Macbook pro. The HP laptop was bought in November 2007, the Macbook is of course since this year widely available and not in my possession. The price for the HP is from November and now around 800 euro’s.
Hardware-wise they’re around the same specs and on a few spots the other has more then the other.
The laptop is a 17 inch and the mac is a 15 inch but on the same resolutions.
When I offer my laptop for sale I think I will get around 400-500 euro’s (max) back, unless I really can persuade a witty with a higher offer. I don’t know why, the laptop has been treated good, looks flashing and all works flawless even though it comes with Home Premium Vista. It doesn’t look like new but neither damaged or mistreated. On the other hand if that laptop was a Macbook Pro I can ask around 1200 euro’s for it, a nice head start for a next generation lapdog.
The Macbook is more expensive but when it comes with reselling you get more value out of it
So what would be the next logical step, wise to jump over to mac hardware when it comes to resell possibilities?
Any thoughts?
- Are normal windows laptops more likely to be sold?
- Harder to resell mac laptops because less audience?
- Fair to keep the prices up for mac models that are older then a year?
